Fires, Fires, and More Fires!

Well, it looks like it is going to be one of those years.

Rain, snow, flooding.

Roads washed out.  Mud everywhere.  Ok.  We are country.  We can deal.

Now, after a mid-June snowfall (yes really) it is HOT!  Really hot!   Around 100 degrees.  Yes it is a dry heat.  And???  100 degrees is hot, no matter if it is humid or not!

Especially when you are off grid!  No a/c for us!

So, because of the crazy amount of rain and snow this winter, we have a crazy amount of weeds.  Go figure.

We have been diligently working to mow down the weeds anywhere near our house, chicken coop, solar panels, propane tank, etc, etc, etc.

Since July 3rd, we have had 3 fires come within the worry zone of our house.  Two have been caused by humans (one looks like a possibility of arson, the other – ???).  When you live in the high desert, you have to always be on the lookout.  The governing authorities don’t always have good maps.

For instance, I found out yesterday, after a lightning strike started a fire fairly close by, that I had to go on Twitter to see if I was under evacuation orders.  REALLY!!!  I live in a rural community, and if I had to place a bet, I would say that MAYBE 10% of the local population has ever considered signing up for Twitter.  Consider that!

A rural community that is comprised mostly of senior citizens, is told via Facebook Live (Ok, some of them have discovered Facebook) that if they want to know if they are part of an evacuation order, they need to check the map on Twitter.

What planet are these people on!!!

So, I dutifully signed up for a Twitter account.

Only to find out that I am under evacuation orders.

No phone call, no visit from an authority.

Nope.  I didn’t check Twitter.

Who are these people who are in charge of securing the public safety/

Hmmm….
