Off-grid in Northern Nevada

After living in or on the outskirts of cities my entire life, I was looking for space around me.  My husband and I bought 40 acres of bare land and started the process of trying to build our home.  What started as a dream retirement home became something more.

Bringing power to our future home was cost prohibitive.  We had no plans to be off-grid, but it soon became our only option.  Now we are so thankful!  We rely on solar power primarily, with a generator for backup.  We also have solar hot water. We have no wires or pipes coming onto our property, only what we produce ourselves.

Since then we have added a garden, chickens, along with a number of pursuits to help us become more self-sufficient.

Follow along with us as we continue to learn and grow!
