The Why

Everyone needs a why.

What makes you get up each morning.  What makes you go to work, do chores, work a homestead?  What is your motivation?

For me, it is my family and my faith.

I am known for taking on more than I should.  I have a bookkeeping business that I am trying to slow down.  I have a soapmaking company.  I volunteer for various non-profits. Make sourdough breads, soap, cheese, yogurt, cook, can, garden, and now YouTube and blogging.

Why?  My family!  My husband Brian and my daughter Shana.

Yes, I take pleasure in these things.  I enjoy creating tasty, nutritious foods (and some just plain comfort foods), and I enjoy helping people.  But at the bottom of it all, my family is my why.

I can have difficult days.  Especially if I have to drive into town!  The thing that always keeps me going is my family!

What is your why?  This is such an important question to ask yourself, because without a why you are just drifting.

It could be your family.  It could be a goal.  Whatever it is, fix it firmly in your mind.

There will always be difficult days, difficult situations and difficult people.  As long as you have your why firmly in mind, you can do whatever you set your mind to!

    • I am working on retiring, so I have limited my bookkeeping clients to two. I do some of my work from home, and some I have to drive into town. I did start my own business in 2008, in the middle of the Great Recession. It isn’t easy, but if you perservere it is very rewarding. But, at the same time, I always make time for the people and the things that are most important to me. It is never easy, but I try my best.
